Our independent optometry practice in Blackwood is dedicated to providing a traditional, caring and professional service, all delivered by our helpful and friendly staff.

The practice was founded in 1985 and is constantly developing, with continued investment in new equipment which include field screening technology similar to the type used in most eye hospitals.

Over the years, some things like the equipment we use has changed but the service we provide has always been of a high standard. We supply a full range of optometric services including NHS and Private eye examinations, the Welsh Assembly sponsored Welsh Eye Care Examination and emergency appointments for people with acute eye problems.
If you need spectacles or contact lenses then being independent opticians we are free to advise you on the best frames and lenses to suit your eyes.

Meet the Team

DIRECTOR / OPTOMETRIST

ElliotBateman.jpg

Elliot Bateman

Elliot has been with the practice since 2013, having taken over from Peter since early 2015. He qualified in Optometry at Cardiff University in 2010, and has since had experience in hospital and high street eye care. He is an honorary welshman, having lived in Wales since 2006, and enjoys a bit of banter around Six Nations time! He’s also partial to a Welshcake (or three) and as such would never move back to England!

OPTOMETRIST

Peter Hong

Peter has been with the practice since 1985, ever since he started the business himself. He has experience in hospital and high street eye care, as well as being a qualified Independent Prescriber. He has also organised volunteering expeditions abroad to Romania, Moldova and Malawi to further eye care in those countries. He is always happy to see you, especially if you bring his favourite sausage rolls!

Lucy Hemms

Lucy has been with our team since 2015, having had previous optical experience, and is now training to be a Dispensing Optician. She also has a love of operatic music, and if you’re lucky you might catch her singing Nessun Dorma in between helping our patients pick a perfect pair of glasses!
